The album aims to grasp the essence of Polishness in the landscape.
The author, a photographer fascinated by Poland's natural surroundings,
presents the fruit of his observations of its well-known and little-known
corners. Poems accompany the photographs, and an essay by Ryszard
Kapuściński introduces them. In April 2000 this album took honors
in the Polish Association of Book Publishers Competition for Most
Beautiful Books of the Year.
"Ryszard Czerwiński uses light to transform reality into
a fairy-tale landscape. Here every one of the 86 frames is to
delight in, and to muse upon - like the serene impressions of
Claude Monet. A Mazovian meadow seems like the fields near Giverny,
a flowering meadow recalls a Monet garden saturated with strong
midday sunlight, and a Bug River scene seems a part of the Seine;
but there is also a misty river in color tones like those of Chełmoński's
painting Dawn."
